Who else ate a lot of candy on NYE?
I’m over the festivities. Once that clock hit 12:01, I was back in business mode. 2021 is going to bring massive momentum for the childfree movement. I feel it.
That’s the only prediction I’m making for this year.
My tradition that enhances my new year.
Last week, I mentioned my belief that how you spend NYE determines the new year's vibe. It began in 2015 after reading some random article on the subject. For fun, I decided to test this theory. At the time, I was working 50 hours a week and in need of greater self-care moments.
So, I booked a suite for two nights at a nice hotel in my city. Complete with a spa package and a ticket to the masquerade ball. The hotel even threw in complimentary tickets to the New Year’s Day brunch buffet.
I also attended a New Year’s Day Tribute to Vienna concert.
Posh moment.
That experience opened me up to creating more magical moments throughout the year.
The following NYE, I booked a getaway to a nearby mountain town. This time, I got a Victorian suite at an English Tudor-style inn. I had a fireplace, a large soaker tub, and views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I could hear the band playing in the pub down below, so I may have danced a little, in private.
I journaled, watched movies, texted with friends, and enjoyed having no work responsibilities for 48 hours. Little did I know how much my life would change in 2017.
Now, I’m not saying this chain of events happened solely because of how I spent NYE. But, the energy of wellness and escape from the rat race was in abundance. By April of 2017, the company owners I was working for decided to retire and sell. I was in a position to take significant time off and do whatever I wanted.
The rest of 2017 was spent taking road trips around my country (Canada). I also went to Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco (the only item on my bucket list) and saw the Grand Canyon during a week-long birthday trip to Vegas.
So, what fancy thing did I do for the next NYE?
I helped a friend complete 10 years’ worth of taxes. In my defence, I was still recovering from my Vegas trip. I’d gotten sick upon my arrival home, and all I wanted was a back rub and sleep.
Ringing in the new year elbow-deep in receipts inspired me to take a college bookkeeping course in 2018. During one of the classes, I came up with the name The Bitchy Bookkeeper. That went on to become a childfree blog and, subsequently, a childfree lifestyle brand.
NYE 2019-There was a feeling of uneasiness I couldn’t explain. I decided I wanted to feel safe and secure at home. So, I stayed in and wrote. 2020 went on to become the year to feel….safe and secure at home.
NYE 2020 was filled with cheese and candy, surrounded by twinkling lights. Sounds promising.
Ha!
The Childfree Girls Podcast goes LIVE
As you may know, I co-host a podcast and web series called Childfree Girls. This Friday, January 8th, at 7 PM Est, we are going LIVE for the first time.
Am I nervous?
Hell ya!
Especially since our topic is Parents: Selfish?
I’ve been known to go on a rant and then later decide to edit myself down a bit. You can’t do that when you are live!
If you want to be a witness and participate, here’s the link to sign up for it.

Otherwise, the recording will be available the following Sunday on our YouTube channel and podcast.
Childfree Pick-of-the-Week
This year is about owning your childfree choice! Whether it’s a new decision or you’re decades into it. Even today, I received many questions and comments about “missing out” and needed to take a minute to centre myself in my choice before responding. It’s super easy to get defensive and angry when it feels like no one supports you.
Childfree by Choice Guided Meditation is a free five-minute meditation with music and images if you don’t like to keep your eyes closed for that long.
Heck, I listen to meditations while unloading the dishwasher. That’s what inspired the idea to make this video. Feeling confident in your life choices begins on the inside.
Take five minutes to bask freely in your choice. No meditation experience necessary.
Final Thoughts
Childfree content creators are producing magazines, documentaries, conferences, and more—all to be released in 2021. As humanity continues to deal with this pandemic, climate crises, and its own general ridiculousness, the desire to remain childfree grows stronger. Perhaps instead of hoping a future generation will fix all our problems, we receive the inspiration to create solutions ourselves.
Until next time,
LeNora Faye
