Conversations with Antinatalists, Childfree Guys, and a Childfree Song!
Because the more we talk about it, the more normal it becomes.
Hi!
This issue has four hours of conversation in it! So, if you are in the mood to binge-watch thought-provoking discussions about living childfree and antinatalism, I’ve got you covered!
Why are we talking about being childfree and not wanting to have kids? What does it matter? Does there need to be a movement around hashtag childfree?
The Canadian talk show, The Social did a segment around the rise in popularity of #childfreebychoice and #nothavingkids and discussed whether or not it’s necessary to have such a movement. The two hosts moderating the conversation are childfree by choice, and their opinions surprised me. I expected them to be more supportive of people speaking out. It’s not that the hosts were hostile, but they overlooked the lack of representation and awareness of choice experienced throughout the world.
I’m Canadian; I feel fortunate to live openly childfree and spend my days advocating for more conversations about this choice. I don’t experience much negativity, personally. Does this mean there’s no need to speak out about being childfree? Just because I get to live my life however I want? No. I’ve met too many people who have told me how much the childfree conversation & community has changed their life, for the better. And I don’t mean just the work I’m attached to.
Think of the millions (possibly billions) of people unaware that not having kids is a valid life choice.
Being aware of the struggles of others encourages empathy and solutions. And finding support, acceptance, and celebration of the Childfree choice is still a struggle for many. So, there is a need for those who are free and able to speak out to do so.
Childfree Club on Clubhouse app
A mid-week respite for the soul, Childfree Mental Health/Wellness Chat is an excellent place for childfree people to gather and discuss whatever is on their minds. We’ve been running this audio-chat room for several months now, and after each conversation, I feel 20 pounds lighter. If you need to laugh, vent, ask a question or listen to the experiences of others, feel free to drop in. Childfree Club is a no-judgement zone for people who don’t have kids, don’t want kids, or are undecided.

Childfree Girls Podcast
LiLi Roquelin is a French singer-songwriter who lives in New York. She recently released her latest single, a song called “Childfree.” We invited her to our show so that she could tell us about the inspiration behind the song and her choice not to raise children. We also discuss a Reddit AITA dilemma with her, and we’re want to know if you think the OP is or isn’t an A-hole!
Childfree Guys Talk-round 2 replay
Five childfree men from Canada, Pakistan, the UK, and the USA, answered audience questions and shared their insights into living childfree. It was such a pleasure moderating this conversation. We still didn’t get to all the questions, so look out for round 3!
The Exploring Antinatalism Podcast
What do you know about antinatalism? By definition, antinatalism is an ethical view that negatively values procreation. Antinatalists argue that humans should abstain from procreation because it is morally wrong (some also recognize the procreation of other sentient beings as problematic).
Not all childfree people are antinatalists, and not all antinatalists are childfree.
Along with Kristen and Isabel, I was a guest on The Exploring Antinatalism podcast a few weeks ago. The following video is 2.5 hours in length, and we discuss with hosts Amanda and Mark the differences, similarities, and hopes for the future of the childfree and antinatalist communities.
Final thought (in numbers)
It’s been 12 weeks since I had ankle surgery, five weeks since I began physiotherapy, three weeks since I got locked out of my main Instagram account (The Bitchy Bookkeeper —I’m now over at Childfree Blog.), and last night, I celebrated all of this by going out for dinner with a companion and we ate 48 ounces of a ribeye tasting platter. It was all worth it!
