Happy Easter!
I’m late, I know! I’ve been sidetracked by……wait for it……my nephews. Yes, I’m hosting my brother’s two sons for the week while they are on Easter break. As someone who chose not to have children, I get to invest my time and resources into various projects and activities that matter to me and hold my interest.
The result is a full schedule.
My nephews are 10 and 15 years of age, so they are potty-trained and can make their own breakfast. Since I live alone in a family-sized townhouse, we have plenty of space and separate bathrooms. My place offers quiet respite. That being said, we like to hang out and visit and watch movies. So, all of my childfree projects are a day behind schedule. This newsletter included.
I love being an aunt, and I’m aware of how much space I need on an emotional level to function at my best.
Bottom line, I’m glad I chose not to have kids.
Childfree Girls podcast
Episode 40 is a fun episode where we read and react to some of the most memorable comments we have received so far on our YouTube channel. Here is the video. You can also listen to it in podcast form on Spotify, Podbean, iTunes/Apple Podcast, PlayerFM, and other major apps!
2021 Virtual Childfree Conference
EXCITING NEWS!!!! We got a sponsor for the conference. We weren’t seeking sponsors but, on a whim, decided to ask StreamYard (the platform we intended to use to stream the event) if they would be willing to provide us with professional-level service for free. And they agreed! So, the conference, which is a free global event, will be in full 1080 HD! Other perks will allow us to create a high-quality live event for childfree people around the world!
SO EXCITED!!!

Childfree pick-of-the-week
This week’s pick comes courtesy of Nandita, who represented the childfree perspective in this latest episode of The Overpopulation Podcast—episode 59: Bravo for the Baby Bust!
“On an overpopulated planet, a baby bust is cause for celebration. It’s exactly what we need. Today, because of growth addiction and widespread ignorance of the overpopulation crisis, dropping birth rates is universally reported as bad news. We circle up for roundtable discussion of the phenomenon – and provide the significant alternative, science-based viewpoint – in this episode.”
Final thoughts
Life experiences offer us insights into ourselves and the world around us. That being said, we don’t have to go through the SAME life experiences.
We can learn from others by observing and listening as they share. Being an aunt gives me a small glimpse into a parent's daily life, mostly the fun aspects of kids. I do enjoy my time with my nephews. Already a day behind on projects that mean the world to me because I’m hosting the kids for a week; I see how “mom-guilt” is a real thing. And I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with that regularly. I want to be present with my nephews while they are in my house. We each do our own thing in the mornings, but I remain available if they need something.
This idea that we all must procreate to “know true love” or “become a better person” or “have a meaningful life” is a bunch of crap. You don’t have to have any interaction with children to experience this. Kids, whether your own or not, take a lot of energy from you. Even though it’s fun, it’s going to take me a couple of weeks to recover energetically. And that is fine. It’s my choice to be an active aunt. I feel called to it. Not everyone does, and that is also fine.
Wishing you a week of blessed personal space!
Until next time (and on time),
LeNora Faye
