Hey all!
I’m starting this newsletter with a photo from last summer. Actually, I believe this pic was taken on the first day of fall. Either way, a snowstorm has hit my city this evening and I’m so over snow. Life on the Canadian Prairies.
Daily conversations in Childfree Club (on the Clubhouse app) have resulted in several thought-provoking questions. One of them being:
Are you planning on looking after your parents when they get old? (Are you under any obligation to do so?)
As childfree people, we are often asked, “Who is going to take care of you when you get old?” In reality, how many of us are equipped to look after our parents? My father is not relying on me or my brother to provide his care. He retires this year and is healthy, active, and financially sound. He aims to be independent into his elder years and is financially prepared to pay for care if need be. What this means for me is the freedom to live my life.
Whether you plan on caring for your parents or not, it’s your right to set those boundaries. For some of us, caregiving is not our strength. It would impact our mental health and well-being, let alone add financial strain. For others, caring for parents is an honour. Either way, family discussions are important instead of placing unrealistic expectations on unsuspecting offspring.

Accidental Parenthood podcast
Episode 12– I ask my brother, Evan, about the emotional toll parenting takes on a person. He shares his experiences with kids’ hospital visits, asking for help, and what parents can do when they feel overwhelmed. I’m learning so much as I listen to my brother share these insights. So many things that parents don’t mention when they tell us to “try parenthood; you might like it.”
You can listen to this podcast on Spotify, iTunes/Apple Podcast, Google Podcast, and more!

Final thoughts
The other night, I had to delete a bunch of troll comments left on the childfree conference social media pages. Troll comments from parents! I mean, I don’t go to “mommy” conference pages and troll them. I hope their kids grow up to be childfree. And happy!
Ha! Have a lovely week!
Until next time,
